About Me

My Background

I'm a first-year Electrical and Computer Engineering student at Duke University with a passion for teaching and helping others excel.

My journey in education began by helping my classmates as early as middle school. Throughout high school and college, I gained extensive tutoring experience through volunteer clubs, paid positions, and simply tutoring my classmates and underclassmen. I continue to provide tutoring across various disciplines for all ages, as well as college application counseling to help students achieve the college of their dreams.

Teaching Philosophy

Many students think they're struggling because they're "bad at" a particular subject or "just not good test takers". Many students believe they "hate math" and "hate school". Of course they do — because public education has taught them wrong.

Public education often rushes through key ideas, prioritizes test performance over actual understanding, and fails to teach students why the math works, instead focusing on memorization. Math becomes a collection of formulas, language becomes a set of rules, learning becomes a list of chores. All classes are taught with this depersonalized, ineffective approach, which only results in improved average class grades rather than individual student improvement. I work to undo that.

Here's what makes my approach different:

• I personalize how I teach to a particular thinking and learning style. Everyone is different.
• I focus on developing critical thinking and a fundamental understanding of concepts. Higher grades and test scores follow as a natural result of improved critical thinking and problem-solving strategy.
• I try to help my students appreciate the subject — math, english, and science can be beautiful, and they are much more than memorization and "getting through the homework".
• I teach students how to self-correct and problem-solve, allowing them to confidently work independently with new or tricky material.
